HISTORY
たなかん は、伊佐市の牛尾校区にある明治４年に建てられた「旧池田邸」を改装したゲストハウスです。
近隣にはかつて金が採掘されていた「牛尾金山」で働く人たくさんの人たちが暮らし、鉱山の発展に大きく寄与した地質学者・池田氏の住居かつ、金山事務所の役割も担っていた地域を象徴する家屋でした。
また、台風の際に人々が身を寄せ、食料難の際に庭の柿の実を分けあい、大きな栗の木を使って綱引き大会の練習をしたりと、地域の方が集まり、語らい、安心できる場所として親しまれてきました。
Tanakan is a guesthouse renovated from the “Former Ikeda Residence,” built in 1871 (Meiji 4) in the Ushio school district of Isa City.
Nearby, many people who worked at the “Ushio Gold Mine,” where gold was once mined, lived. This house was symbolic of the area, serving as the residence of geologist Mr. Ikeda, who greatly contributed to the development of the mine, and also as the gold mine office.
Furthermore, it has been a beloved place where people gather, talk, and feel safe, providing shelter during typhoons, sharing persimmons from the garden during food shortages, and practicing tug-of-war using the large chestnut tree.

伊佐市に移住してまもない私たちが、６年間空き家となっていた旧池田邸と出会い、この家が持つ役割をそのままに、伊佐の最大の魅力である「伊佐の人」と旅人が交流できる場所にしたい。
そんな想いからDIY古民家改修ワークショップ「たなかんとぅプロジェクト」が始動し、全8回・のべ214名の方のお力をお借りし、3年の月日を経て『伊佐のゲストハウス たなかん』と、飲食店『たべるたなかん』が出来上がりました。
Having recently moved to Isa City, we came across the former Ikeda residence, which had been vacant for six years. We wanted to preserve the original purpose of this house and transform it into a place where travelers could interact with the people of Isa—the city’s greatest charm.
With this in mind, the DIY old house renovation workshop, “Tanakanto Project,” was launched. With the help of 214 people over eight sessions, after three years, we completed “Isa Guesthouse Tanakan” and the restaurant “Taberu Tanakan.”
古道具の内装 （antique interior）
たなかんのインテリアのほとんどは、池田邸で長く使われてきたものです。
他にも、廃校で使われていた建具や役目を終えて処分されていたものなどを磨き直し、アップサイクルな内装にこだわりました。傷跡さえも愛おしいヴィンテージな空間で、ゆっくりと流れる時間をお楽しみください。
Most of the interior furnishings at Tanakan are items that have been used for a long time in the Ikeda residence.
In addition, we have polished up recycled fixtures from a former school and other items that would have been discarded after their purpose was served, focusing on an upcycled interior design. Please enjoy the slow passage of time in this vintage space where even the scratches are endearing.
